A lightweight bout with serious implications in the division is coming to the UFC 124 card in December, as MMAWeekly.com reports that Jim Miller will meet Charles Oliveira on the card at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Oliveira is coming off a highly impressive submission victory over Efrain Escudero last month at Fight Night 22. After suffering a low blow in the third round, Oliveira came out with a fury and sent the Ultimate Fighter season eight winner to the ground. In the ensuing scramble, Oliveira climbed up Escudero's back and locked on a standing rear naked choke and forced the submission.
Miller has gone 7-1 in eight UFC appearances, his sole loss coming to Gray Maynard by decision. His only other career loss was suffered at the hands of UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar by decision back in 2006.
The winner of this fight will make a statement in the deep lightweight division, and will put themselves on a short path towards a title shot.
UFC 124 airs live on pay-per-view on December 11, headlined by the UFC Welterweight Championship bout between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck.
Penick's Analysis: I absolutely love this fight. It's an extremely tough fight for both fighters. Miller has had tremendous success in his career, and is coming off an extremely impressive performance against Gleison Tibau, and Oliveira is still undefeated through 14 fights. This is going to be a really good fight, and the winner is in great shape in the division. This is a great addition to the Montreal card, and I can't wait to see this one.
