The UFC is working on a couple of fights for December's UFC 124 event that will feature Canadian talent, as T.J. Grant and Jason MacDonald will take on Ricardo Almeida and Rafael Natal, respectively, on the December 11 card in Montreal. Grant-Almeida was first reported by Showdown.ca, while MacDonald-Natal was first reported by MMAFighting.com.
Almeida is looking to bounce back from a submission loss to Matt Hughes at UFC 117. The loss snapped a three fight win streak, including his welterweight debut where he submitted Matt Brown. Grant, meanwhile, has alternated wins and losses in the organization, most recently defeating Julio Paulino last month by decision at UFC 119.
MacDonald returns for the first time since suffering a horrific ankle injury at UFC 113 in May. He badly injured it in the first round of his bout against John Salter. Natal suffered only the third loss of his career in his UFC debut against TUF 11 fighter Rich Attonito at Fight Night 22 last month.
UFC 124 takes place from the Bell Centre, headlined by a Welterweight Championship bout between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck.
Penick's Analysis: Both of these fights are likely to take place on the preliminary card, but they're both good additions to the event. As Canadian fighters they'll get a good reception from the Montreal crowd, and both fights should definitely be competitive for the event.
