Members of The Underground Forum pulled off quite the hoax this morning, scaring MMA fans everywhere with a rumor that UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar would be pulling out of his bout with Shane Carwin at UFC 116.
The rumor, proven to be a hoax and a completely false report with statements by Yahoo! Sports writer Kevin Iole on Twitter, who got confirmations from both Brock Lesnar's manager as well as UFC President Dana White that Lesnar is 100% healthy and ready to go, was spread further with a story from UFC credentialed site Bleacher Report.
In addition, UK website MMABay ran with a laughable "breaking news" report on the story citing "a source close to the situation" saying that Lesnar would be pulling out of the fight.
Once again, these rumors are false, Lesnar is not pulling out of the fight, and next Saturday's UFC 116 main event is on and ready to go.
Penick's Analysis: This is one of those situations where you can't believe everything you read on the internet. The Bleacher Report article was a highly irresponsible passing on of the unsubstantiated rumor, and when they get circulated in newspapers and get a lot of hits from Google News updates it's ridiculous that this gets out there. There are plenty of rumors that abound, and we've posted some from time to time, but when it comes to such a thing as an injury taking away one of the more highly anticipated fights in recent memory, you should have your facts straight before letting things get out of hand.
