"I put a little bit more attention in wrestling because that’s what I need to do in this fight. I need to take Anderson down... I’m pretty happy to fight there because actually what drew me to the UFC was my win in the Abu Dhabi 2007 (submission grappling tournament). So ADCC, the Abu Dhabi Combat Club is something that... I’m very glad that I was fighting there and I won. And now I can come back and fight, again."
-UFC middleweight challenger Demian Maia talks to MMAWeekly.com about what he needs to do in his Title shot against Anderson Silva this Saturday at UFC 112 as well as how happy he is to fight in Abu Dhabi.
Penick's Analysis: This is absolutely the only way Maia has any sort of chance in this fight. He can't stand with Silva, and really you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that can. While Silva is a black belt in his own right in jiu jitsu, that is Maia's greatest attribute and he's turned his competition BJJ into some of the best BJJ in the sport of mixed martial arts. It's no given that he even gets the fight to the ground, but to have any hope of winning this fight with Silva he's going to need to get the fight to the ground and just flat out-grapple "The Spider."
