FRIDAY 8/29 NIGHTTIME UPDATE

If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site tonight:

-In follow up to Renan Barao being pulled from UFC 177, there are more details on just what happened. While he was cutting weight, he got light headed, passed out, and hit his head in his hotel room, at which time his team called for an ambulance, and had him taken to the hospital. With the incident, UFC President Dana White said he will not be getting a title fight upon his return, and suggested perhaps it's time he move up a weight class. Further, Champ T.J. Dillashaw commented that he feels he “broke” Barao mentally, making the former Champ not want to fight him this week. He also explained why he accepted a fight with Joe Soto for Saturday instead. More on all of those moving parts from today's news on our mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.

-Torch contributor Cash Norman gave her thoughts on the UFC 177 changes, along with the UFC nixing the idea of Luke Rockhold vs. Michael Bisping, in a new piece tonight. Excerpt: “Outside of UFC 175 last month, the UFC has had a string of pay-per-views that have underperformed. 173 (Barao vs Dillashaw) had just over 200k pay-per-view buys in May, and 174 (Johnson vs Bagautinov) had barely 100K pay-per-view buys. Then there was the cancellation of UFC 176 (Aldo vs Mendes II) and the fall out of the main event for UFC 177 (Dillashaw vs Barao), which more than likely will not reach 100k buys.” Full column on the mobile site.

-Renan Barao wasn't the only removal from the UFC 177 card, as Henry Cejudo pulled out earlier in the day due to “medical and safety” issues. That leaves the card with just eight fights. More on the mobile site.

-”Funky” Ben Askren took some shots at the UFC for giving Joe Soto a title fight, saying he'd take his if they're just giving them away. Prior to that, Askren captured the ONE FC Welterweight Title during the day in Dubai at ONE FC 19. Full ONE FC 19 results along with Askren's comments to the UFC and further thoughts on the mobile site.

We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
