TUESDAY 7/29 MORNING UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site this morning:
-Final numbers are in for UFC on Fox 12 from Saturday night, and it drew 2.5 million viewers on average to Fox. Additionally, the prelims - which also aired on Fox – drew an average of 1.3 million viewers. It's right in line with April's Fox event numbers-wise, but might still be a bit disappointing for the UFC. More thoughts on the numbers on the mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.
-Speaking of numbers, the Bellator 122 card last Friday drew 582,000 viewers to Spike TV, peaking with 807,000 viewers during the co-main event. More thoughts on those figures on the mobile site now.
-Two lightweight fighters who picked up wins at UFC on Fox 12 are turning around for a matchup at UFC 178 in September. The UFC announced today that Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal will square off on that pay-per-view card in Las Vegas. Head to the mobile site for more information on both fighters.
-In his first fight since serving a suspension for a failed drug test for HCG in December, Dennis Siver will fight Robert Whiteford at UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm, Sweden, on Oct. 4. Head to the main listing for more on both fighters into that matchup.
-Our morning poll today asks our readers about the current three week break between UFC fights, and whether they like that respite from the schedule. 43% think it's needed to avoid burnout, 28% think it could be a little shorter, but it's nice to have a break, and the final 29% want events every weekend. I'm in the middle a bit, because while there is a definite burnout factor having fights every weekend, more than a two week break can drag on as well. If they weren't intent to run so many events, an every other week schedule with the occasional double header would probably work out nicely.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
