SUNDAY 7/27 MORNING UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site this morning:
-Saturday's UFC on Fox 12 event featured a highly entertaining main card thanks to the efforts of those in the top three fights. Because of that, Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown, Anthony Johnson, and Dennis Bermudez each took home an extra $50,000 in bonus money. Head to the main listing of our mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser for a rundown of their bonus-winning efforts.
-Speaking of Saturday's card, the fast overnight ratings have come in, and it drew just slightly over two million viewers, which is just above the average for April's UFC on Fox 11 event. Now, the west coast viewership and overrun haven't been taken into account, so it's likely the card gets a significant numbers boost later on this week. More information on the numbers with further analysis available on the mobile site now.
-Dana White said Saturday night that he was “blown away” by Anthony Johnson's performance, but still thinks he's got to win another fight to get into the title mix. See his comments with further analysis by visiting the mobile site.
-In other news, the UFC announced the location of their next Fox event, as they'll officially head to Arizona for the first time on December 13. No fights were revealed with the event that far out, but Frankie Edgar is now angling for a five round main event with Cub Swanson for the card. More thoughts on that on the mobile site.
-Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes II will take place in October at UFC 179 in Brazil as expected, Dana White announced on Saturday. More on the fight and their paths back to a rematch in the main listing now.
-In our morning poll, we've asked readers if they feel Robbie Lawler will capture the UFC Welterweight Title in his rematch with Johny Hendricks. 48% think it's possible, but it will be a close fight. Around 30% are sure he'll get it done, and the remaining 22% think a healthy Hendricks will be too much for him.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
