THURSDAY 5/29 MORNING UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what hit the site this morning:
-Our roundtable today looked at Saturday's two events from the UFC, and which of the fights stand out from the two cards. There's not a ton, despite the volume of fights to choose from. Excerpt from Rich Hansen: “All in all, other than the main event, there's nothing happening in Berlin that's compelling enough to tear me away from the family to sit in the basement, especially when it's supposed to be gorgeous outside, and when there's another card full of uninteresting fights twenty three minutes later. Especially when there was a PPV last weekend, and the weekend before, and three weekends before that, and the Brown vs. Silva card somewhere in there, and a really strong card next weekend, and a PPV the following weekend, and the biggest PPV of the year so far three weeks after that, and I'm sure I'm missing some.” Read the full roundtable in the main listing at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.
-Lorenzo Fertitta says Alistair Overeem is looking to return from injury this September, and he wants a spot on the UFC's card in Japan. Whether he gets on there or not remains to be seen, but see Fertitta's comments with further thoughts in the main listing.
-The Nevada Athletic Commission issued medical suspensions to most of the fighters on last weekend's UFC 173 event in Las Vegas, with several receiving six-month suspensions due to injuries suffered on the card. See the full list in the main listing now.
-Bellator's 11th season has a kickoff date, as Bellator 123 comes to Connecticut on Sept. 5. The event will feature the opening round in the middleweight tournament, along with a feature fight between Brennan Ward and former UFC competitor James Irvin. A main event will be announced over the summer. More info with quotes from Ward and Irvin in the main listing.
-Our morning poll asked for predictions on the Stipe Miocic vs. Fabio Maldonado headliner at “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” Finale. 88% of the respondents think Miocic wins, with a full 58% of the vote picking him by TKO. Get your votes in now!
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
