What are your thoughts on Rousimar Palhares now WSOF Champ, and how do you see his fight with Jon Fitch going in July?
FRANK HYDEN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR
I think Palhares is a good fighter, but a dirty one as well. He won the title so he's certainly deserving. I imagine the heads of WSOF will hold their breath every time he fights, though, hoping he doesn't injure someone on national TV. That's not exactly an ideal situation, but it's the reality. As for his fight with Fitch, I think Fitch grinds him down. I think he'll employ the blanket approach and win a very boring decision. Fitch knows how dangerous Palhares is on the ground so he'll try to avoid placing himself in any bad spots. I expect a boring, but safe, fight from Fitch.
BRAD WALKER, MMATORCH COLUMNIST
I think Rousimar Palhares is a jerk who shouldn't be allowed to fight in any cage for any promotion ever. His negligence towards opponents is sickening; and my knowledge of how painful these holds are tells me one thing: he is either reckless or he doesn't care. Both may hold true but I still believe his violations in conduct (including the Carl fight - the referee had to break his hands) should keep him far from any cage.
KALE HAVERVOLD, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR
It goes without saying he is the best leg lock artist in MMA today. He went out and did what he always does. I think if Fitch can prove he can escape from the early leg locks that we all know will come, he might have a shot to survive and win.
TOM STRONG, MMATORCH UK CONTRIBUTOR
Though I'm not a fan of Rousimar Palhares, you can't deny he's a beast at 170 lbs. He will cause anyone real trouble in WSOF. I really like the matchup with Jon Fitch. The talent pool within WSOF's welterweight division isn't stacked, so I could see Palhares holding onto the belt for some time (excuse the pun) if he can defeat Fitch, which won't be an easy task!
CASH NORMAN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR
Like I said before, Alan Belcher developed the blueprint on how to defeat Palhares, and I think Fitch should train with Belcher prior to his fight with. Fitch is a better wrestler and grappler than Carl and should give Palhares problems if he's able to nullify the heel hook.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
