Mike Pierce fought his third top ten opponent in his UFC career on Saturday night at UFC 143, and for the third time he fell short, losing a split decision to Josh Koscheck in Las Vegas.
The fight featured a lot of clinch work and Pierce surprising Koscheck with his striking, but it was a fairly even fight overall. A takedown for Koscheck in the second round swung that frame to him for two judges, and a solid third round sealed the fight for him.
Still, it was a grinding affair, and Pierce made it so Koscheck looked much worse in victory than he's been seen in quite some time. The win was Koscheck's second straight since losing to Georges St-Pierre, while Pierce has now lost two of three.
