Two unintentional, yet viciously delivered, groin shots cost Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres a decision against Edwin Figueroa at UFC 143 on Saturday night, as he was deducted two points and lost by split decision.
The first groin shot was landed in the first round, and Figueroa needed almost all of his five minute allotted recovery time before returning. Caceres was given a strong warning by referee Herb Dean before the action continued. Figueroa then knocked him down and nearly out with a head kick but Caceres regained his senses, and controlled the final two and a half minutes as he attacked with submissions.
In the second round, Caceres landed another equally vicious groin shot that led to the two point deduction, yet would have won the round with his grappling. He again controlled the third, but the two point deduction and Figueroa's head kick swung the fight against Caceres for two of the judges.
Figueroa is now 9-1 in his career, while Caceres drops to 6-5 overall, with just one win in four UFC fights.
