After seven fights in the Octagon, "The Mexicutioner" Joey Beltran has been released by the UFC following a loss to Lavar Johnson last weekend, according to a report from Fighter's Only.
Beltran won his first two fights in the organization, and developed a reputation for taking large amounts of punishment yet still coming forward. However, while that ability to take punishment certainly put him in some entertaining brawls, he won just one of his final five fights in the organization.
Add in the fact that last Saturday's loss to Johnson at UFC on Fox 2 was a particularly devastating knockout, the release doesn't come as too much of a surprise. However, he's been entertaining enough for fans that he could be brought back with a couple of wins outside of the organization.
