Pat Barry's Achilles' heel in the UFC has been his ground game, but on Friday night in Nashville, Tenn., his improvements on that front came out in a big way. Barry got himself out of trouble a few times and then scored a knockout over Christian Morecraft at UFC on FX 1.
Morecraft scored an early takedown on Barry, and almost immediately got to mount. He went for a choke as Barry gave up his back, but the now-more-resilient Barry was able to buck him off his back and stand again. He would be taken down a second time, mounted, and again give up his back. This time, Morecraft nearly finished an armbar, but Barry again got out and to his feet.
This time, Barry ducked under a punch from Morecraft and landed a left hook that dropped his opponent. He landed a few brutal follow up strikes on the ground that put Morecraft out cold, notching the knockout win and snapping his two-fight losing streak.
Barry is 4-4 overall now in his UFC career, while Morecraft has lost three of his four appearances in the UFC.
