Though UFC President Dana White said last weekend that Strikeforce's fighters would be staying in Strikeforce, at least one has gotten out before that goes into effect. According to a report from MMAWeekly.com, Fabricio Werdum will return to the UFC on Feb. 4 at UFC 143 in a bout against Roy Nelson.
Werdum left the UFC in 2008 after a contract dispute following his then-shocking knockout loss against Junior dos Santos in the now-Champ's UFC debut. He posted three straight wins in Strikeforce, including his win over Fedor Emelianenko that was the first true loss "The Last Emperor" had suffered, before dropping a decision to Alistair Overeem in June.
He was angling for a bout with Brendan Schaub, but instead he'll meet Nelson, who enters off of a win over Mirko Cro Cop in October. Nelson had lost two straight fights prior to that bout, including a poor performance against Frank Mir, but he dominated Cro Cop to earn a third round TKO win at UFC 137.
UFC 143 is headlined by the Interim Welterweight Championship bout between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz.
