Following their losses at UFC 137 on Saturday night, both Mirko Cro Cop and B.J. Penn announced their retirement from the sport. Cro Cop's was expected and decisive, but Penn's seemed to be an emotional response following a rough fight against Nick Diaz. Following the event, UFC President Dana White wasn't sure if Penn's retirement would stick (quotes from MMAJunkie.com):
"B.J. is a warrior. What happened to him tonight has never happened to him in his entire career. What he's thinking tonight he might not think eight weeks from now... They took B.J. right to the hospital. Who knows. It might be or it might not be [his last fight]. That's up to him. I don't know."
