The WEC makes their first appearance on pay-per-view next weekend with WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber from the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Cal., and with UFC President Dana White acting as the promoter for this event instead of WEC General Manager Reed Harris, there will be some changes to the presentation.
In a response to Dave Farra on his Twitter page, UFC commentator Joe Rogan revealed that he and Mike Goldberg will be calling the action at the event, taking the place of Versus commentator Todd Harris and his new permanent color analyst going forward, Stephan Bonnar.
With the UFC's broadcasters in place for the show, it stands to reason that the UFC's production crew will be in place for this event as well. The WEC is owned by Zuffa, the UFC's parent company, so the change in broadcasters for the first WEC event on pay-per-view isn't much of a surprise. The question came to Rogan after he posted that he'll be appearing at the Punchline comedy club in Sacramento next Friday, the night before the pay-per-view event.
WEC 48 is headlined by a Featherweight Championship bout between Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber, and also features a Lightweight Title bout between Benson Henderson and Donald Cerrone in a rematch of their "Fight of the Year" candidate from 2009.
Penick's Analysis: I like this move a lot. No offense to Harris and Bonnar, who I enjoyed at WEC 47, but this will give the pay-per-view event an even bigger, almost more legitimate feel with the UFC's backing, production and commentary. Having Rogan there to hype up the smaller fighters and call some of the highly technical action that we're bound to see on this action packed card should be a very beneficial part of the show. While people may be wary of the pay-per-view price, this card will more than likely be much more worth the $45 than UFC 112 was.
