The already star studded UFC 48 event on April 24th has added another excellent featherweight matchup to the card, as 5-1 Mackens Semerzier and 15-8 veteran Anthony Morrison are set to meet up on the night's preliminary card.
The fighters have agreed to the fight and are expected to sign bout agreements shortly, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
Morrison debuted in the WEC this January against former Featherweight Champion Mike Brown. Unfortunately, he fought Brown in the first fight since Brown had lost his Title to Jose Aldo, and he suffered a submission loss in the bout.
Semerzier dropped a unanimous decision to Deividas Taurosevicius at that same event in January, the first loss of his career. It followed his exciting debut with the organization last year, when he shocked BJJ ace and highly regarded featherweight Wagnney Fabiano with a first round triangle submission.
When contacted by text about his thoughts on the upcoming bout, Semerzier told MMATorch.com "With me and Anthony there's no BEEF just BUSINESS. I just wanna win."
The WEC 48 card now features 11 bouts. The event is the WEC's pay-per-view debut, as they come live from the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, CA, on April 24th. The card is headlined by a Title double shot as Jose Aldo defends his WEC Featherweight Championship against WEC golden boy Urijah Faber, and Benson Henderson faces Donald Cerrone in a rematch of their "Fight of the Year" candidate from 2009 for the WEC Lightweight Championship.
Penick's Analysis: This is a great fight for the prelim card, and with an already stacked card it's another fight that has a legitimate chance of making it on the pay-per-view broadcast or at least a preliminary broadcast on Versus if they decide to do that as a lead in to the show.
Semerzier dropped the decision to Taurosevicius the last time out, but he's still a high level featherweight that has nothing but good things ahead of him considering he's still only six fights into his professional career. Morrison is a tough challenge, but I'd have to consider Semerzier the favorite in this bout. At any rate it's a fight that makes sense and is a good addition to any card, but gets a bit of a higher profile just by being associated with this really big card for the WEC.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
