UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones skyrocketed up the UFC's light heavyweight ranks and captured the belt in less than three years. But at 23-years-old, Jones hasn't come close to reaching his peak - not only in talent, but in his physical size as well.
To that point, many expect Jones to wind up in the heavyweight division at some point in his career, and many also believe the 6'4" fighter with the longest reach in UFC history will one day be the UFC Heavyweight Champion. One such person holding that belief is Jones' older brother Arthur Jones, defensive tackle for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens and the Champ's older brother.
"I'm telling you, he's going to be a heavyweight champion someday," the elder Jones told ESPN. "Every sport he has ever played throughout high school -- unlike me -- he's always been the captain. He's always been the best on the defense. Always the best on the wrestling team. He is a born leader.
"I was a one-time state champ in wrestling in high school. He was a two-time state champ. He's just a freak child."
That's a very accurate description of the still-evolving champion, and as he prepares for his first title defense against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in September, the anticipation will still remain to see what he can do in the higher weight class in the future.
Penick's Analysis: It's very easy to picture Jones being able to take over the heavyweight division in a few years based on the level we've seen him fight at 205 lbs. He's got ridiculous reach, and when he continues to grow into his frame over the next several years he'll simply grow out of the light heavyweight division. He is an immensely unique fighter that will attempt to clean out the light heavyweight division before making his move up to heavyweight down the line.
