Next week's UFC on Versus 3 card has suffered a blow to the event, as Cub Swanson has suffered an undisclosed injury that has forced him out of a bout with Erik Koch, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
The fight was supposed to take place on the undercard of the event, taking place on March 3 from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., and the UFC is looking for a late replacement to meet Koch on extremely short notice.
Both fighters were set to make their UFC debut on this event after successful stints in sister promotion World Extreme Cagefighting. Swanson went 5-3 with three "Fight of the Night" bonuses throughout his time in the organization, and was set to enter off of a win over Mackens Semerzier before this injury setback.
22-year-old Koch now hopes the UFC can find a replacement so his debut stays on track. The 11-1 professional's only loss came at the hands of undefeated powerhouse Chad Mendes, and his three impressive wins in the WEC left an impression, especially his most recent win over Francisco Rivera in November at WEC 52.
The UFC on Versus 3 card is headlined by the welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann.
Penick's Analysis: This is a really unfortunate blow to this card just a week out from the event. This was the most exciting fight on the night's preliminary card, and it was going to be a good test for both Koch and Swanson. If the UFC can find someone to step up on short notice then that's great, but if not hopefully they can get Koch back onto another card in short order.
