Rich Franklin will never forget his loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 126.
The former UFC Middleweight Champion and perennial headliner for the UFC got his first tattoo on Friday, stemming from a lost bet with Griffin heading into their fight, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
The two fighters seemed to be joking in a UFC video put out prior to the fight, where both said the loser of their fight should get tattooed to "ruin their image." As neither fighter had ever gotten a tattoo before, in a sport where it is commonplace, it seemed a friendly wager made in a joking sense, but Franklin took it seriously.
So seriously, in fact, that he's getting work done on a tattoo that was suggested by Griffin in the original video. Said Griffin, "I think the loser should have to get a big, flaming dragon tattoo, or something just hideous."
His manager, J.T. Stewart spoke to MMAFighting and revealed that a dragon is precisely what Franklin is getting done.
He also added, "I tried to talk him into getting Forrest on his ankle. He said no."
Penick's Analysis: It's kind of funny that Franklin's actually going through with it, but I hope he's not getting anything too hideous. A gigantic dragon on his back could be pretty bad, but he's game for it and going through with it, so as long as he's alright with it that's all that matters now. This is one of the more unique wagers made between fighters prior to a fight, and I'm surprised he actually did go through with it.
