Undefeated featherweight Chad Mendes has a lot to celebrate this week. After successfully making his UFC debut with an impressive performance against Michihiro Omigawa, Mendes has now signed on for his first UFC contract.
Mendes Tweeted late Wednesday a picture of him signing his new deal, which MMAWeekly.com reports is a four fight deal.
His bout with Omigawa marked the last fight on his former WEC deal, which carried over when the organization was folded into the UFC at the outset of the year. The win moved his record to a perfect 10-0, and has earned him consideration as perhaps the top challenger in the division.
Penick's Analysis: Mendes has an extremely bright future in the featherweight division. He is rapidly improving in his striking game, and his wrestling may be unmatched at 145 lbs. His ground and pound game is getting better as well; after a couple of performances in the WEC that many labeled as "boring," Mendes has turned his intensity up and has had two fun and impressive performances in a row.
