There has been a lot of confusion surrounding a report from MMAWeekly.com today surround the UFC 130 bout between Thiago Silva and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, and now there has been another wrinkle added into the mix.
According to a new report from MMAWeekly, Silva's UFC 125 drug test is currently being scrutinized, and was not included on the revealed list of fighters who tested negative for performance enhancing drugs heading into the fight.
15 fighters on the January 1 card were tested, and according to a separate report from MMAJunkie.com, Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard, Chris Leben, Brian Stann, Brandon Vera, Phil Baroni, Brad Tavares, Jeremy Stephens, Dustin Poirier, Diego Nunes, Daniel Roberts, Jacon Volkmann, Dong Hyun Kim and Clay Guida were tested and their results came back negative. Silva was the 15th fighter tested and his sample is still processing.
Fighters submit an A and B sample, and depending on the result of the A sample, the B sample will then be processed and can take longer to get a result.
According to multiple published reports, Rashad Evans has at least been initially approached about stepping in for Silva, leading to speculation that this could be the issue.
Penick's Analysis: If there is a possibility that Silva has tested positive out of the UFC 125 event, it makes sense that the UFC would attempt to prepare for that possibility. It would be extremely disappointing if Silva tested positive, but we don't know that for sure as of this moment. But the UFC is at least looking into alternatives, which doesn't bode well at this point.
