A welterweight bout between Matt Brown and Mark Scanlon is headed to the UFC on Versus 3 event in Kentucky, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
Brown is getting another shot in the UFC despite a three fight losing streak. The most recent loss came against Brian Foster at UFC 123 in November, and there were quickly reports stating that he was being released. That turned out to be premature, and Brown will have another chance to right the ship.
Scanlon looks to rebound himself from a loss in his UFC debut in Germany at UFC 122. He entered the UFC with an unbeaten record, but dropped a decision to fellow unbeaten Pascal Krauss.
UFC on Versus 3 is set to take place from Louisville, Ky., on March 3, headlined by a welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann.
Penick's Analysis: Brown is always in exciting fights, and despite his three fight skid he can compete with a lot of the division. Scanlon is a good British fighter who fell short against a tough competitor in Krauss, and if Brown can pick up a win here it will be a big statement and get him back on track. A loss will surely send him out of the organization, though, so this is a huge fight for him.
