A welterweight bout between Mike Pyle and Ricardo Almeida is headed to UFC 128 in New Jersey this March, according to multiple published reports over the weekend.
Almeida has picked up wins in four of his last five fights, with the loss coming to Matt Hughes by technical submission at UFC 117 in August. But he bounced back from that loss earlier this month when he picked up a decision win over T.J. Grant at UFC 124 in Montreal.
Pyle enters this fight off his most impressive performance in the Octagon to date. After starting his UFC career at 1-2 with losses to Brock Larson and Jake Ellenberger sandwiching a victory over Chris Wilson, Pyle put back to back wins together against Jesse Lennox and John Hathaway. The Hathaway victory, at UFC 120 in London, was an extremely impressive and dominating performance over the much lauded British prospect.
UFC 128 is expected to air live on pay-per-view from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 19.
Penick's Analysis: Very good fight here. Pyle earned himself another step up in the division with that highly impressive win over John Hathaway, and while Almeida returned to his winning ways after the loss to Hughes, he's still in need of another impressive performance at welterweight himself. Almeida's participation in the card isn't surprising at all, considering he lives in the state, so this bout is likely to make its way to television as well. It's a good fight and a good opportunity for both fighters.
