Following his five round dissection of Josh Koscheck on Saturday night, Georges St. Pierre knows where and when he wants to fight next: at UFC 131 in Toronto next April.
"I would love [to fight at UFC 131], but it depends on the boss," St-Pierre said at the UFC 124 post-fight press conference. "If the boss wants it, I'm in."
St. Pierre is a natural choice to headline the event, as evidenced by yet another record setting attendance for one of his fights in fellow Canadian city Montreal. The UFC's first event at the Rogers Centre is going to break all records for a mixed martial arts event in North America, and there remains a lot of options as to who could be on the card.
For UFC President Dana White, he believes everyone available is going to want to take part in the unique and historic event.
"Listen, a couple more fights are going to happen," White said at the post-fight press conference. "And then there will be a whole roster of guys that could fight on that card, and they're all going to want to. I think everyone is going to want to fight on that card, and we'll see what happens."
One White agreed could potentially make it's way to the card is the Heavyweight Championship bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos, though he wouldn't commit to any names with the event being several months off.
Penick's Analysis: St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields and Velasquez-Dos Santos sounds like a pretty good start to filling out this card. Although, depending on how the Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort fight plays out at UFC 126, as it will be just shy of a three month turnaround for anyone on the 126 card to make it to Toronto. If Silva gets past Belfort in quick fashion and doesn't suffer any injuries, there may be a very real possibility that GSP vs. Silva actually comes to fruition on that card. But for now, it's far too soon to do anything but speculate on the possibilities.
