Add welterweight Jon Fitch to the list of fighters wanting to coach on The Ultimate Fighter.
The former Welterweight Title challenger and perennial contender in the division spent some time helping his American Kickboxing Academy teammate Josh Koscheck with his coaching duties during this current season of the reality series, and he says it's something he'd be very interested in doing himself in the future.
"It would be cool, I’d really like to do it," Fitch said in an interview with MMAWeekly.com. "I actually talked to Dana about it, and told him that I was interested if ever the opportunity came around."
"Just the week that I got to spend with the guys, it’s hard to give your knowledge and give effort and time to some guys and then have to walk away. So I really wanted to keep going back, but I had to get ready for Thiago Alves, so I had to get back to AKA and train."
Fitch will be back in action this February against Jake Ellenberger, and hopes a win will finally get him a second shot at the UFC Welterweight Championship.
Penick's Analysis: I can't see the UFC building an entire season of the show around a Jon Fitch fight at this point, because they still haven't been too keen on getting him into a second title shot despite five straight wins since his last title fight. He's simply not the type of fighter or personality they put into those coaching slots. He'd undoubtedly be an immense asset to any fighters he was training on the show, but coaching ability and the ability to impart fighting knowledge on a team aren't always at the forefront of the UFC's decisions on TUF coaches.
