On Friday in Germany at a fan Q&A session, UFC President Dana White stated that he felt a third bout between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir "kind of made sense." But fans have not been all that thrilled with the prospects of a third bout between the two, and they let him know that through Twitter after the comments hit the web, and he says he's reconsidering that stance.
"People have been saying on my Twitter that they're not happy with that fight," White said, in comments made to MMAJunkie.com. "It's something I need to rethink."
White doesn't put much credence into the outcry against the fight on message boards across the internet, but he did say those that responded to him on Twitter were expressing their dissatisfaction with that bit of match making.
"I usually don't gauge things by the Internet; the internet is [expletive] stupid," White said. "My Twitter I do.
"On my Twitter, there are 1.2 million people that care about this thing and everything else, and you don't get the goofy [expletive] that you get on the Internet."
Lesnar has faced Mir twice already in the UFC, losing in his debut when he was caught in a knee bar at UFC 81, and then getting his revenge in a two round destruction of Mir at UFC 100. But, when he's had only seven career fights, fans are wanting to see him against a new opponent.
Penick's Analysis: This is welcome news. That fight, while it may have made some good money for the UFC, is the least appealing option of any that are possibile. News is coming out that Roy Nelson is in a contractual limbo stemming from a fight he took with Roy Jones, Jr.'s Square Ring Promotions, so he may be out, but I think a fight between Lesnar and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would be a good option.
