UFC middleweight Alan Belcher has been on the sidelines since suffering a detached retina while training for his planned Fight Night 22 main event with Demian Maia.
The injury required multiple surgeries, and Belcher has been trying to recover while not knowing if he'd ever be able to fight again. But he's gotten some good news, and informed fans on Twitter on Tuesday that his recovery is coming along well.
"Dr. Semple said I am making a remarkable recovery and may be able to return to training as early as January," Belcher said.
A January return to training could mean a 2011 return to action for "The Talent," who was trying to break into the contender picture in the UFC's middleweight division before being sidetracked with the injury.
Penick's Analysis: That's great news to hear, and hopefully Belcher continues to recover at the pace he's at. Fans should also be hopeful that he suffers no further setback, and can recover from this potentially devastating injury to continue his career in the Octagon. A 2011 return means he can still get himself right back into the mix without having been gone for too long. He'll re-insert himself right into the mix as well, so here's wishing for the best and for a continued speedy recovery from one of the emerging talents in the division.
