While last week's debut episode may not have done record numbers, Wednesday's second episode of UFC Primetime: Lesnar vs. Velasquez tied for the second highest mark in series history, bringing in 1.1 million viewers to Spike for the half hour broadcast.
The show, highlighting the training camps of UFC 121 headliners Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez, as well as the family and personal life of Velasquez, upped the viewership from the premiere episode's 974,000 viewers. In doing so, the second episode tied the final episode of UFC Primetime: Rampage vs. Evans in May as the second highest viewed "UFC Primetime" episode.
The highest rated episode of the show ever was the "Rampage vs. Evans" debut, which brought in 1.2 million viewers. Lesnar vs. Velasquez can challenge that number with next week's finale.
The only other episode of the series to reach the one million viewer mark was the debut of the "St. Pierre vs. Hardy" edition of the show in March.
Penick's Analysis: This week's number played off of the strongest ratings for this season of TUF as well. The only thing that might stop them from challenging for record ratings next week is the fact that it's in a different timeslot, but it's also following the first ever airing of UFC 116 on Spike, so it could do very well off of that as well. Either way, the UFC has a lot of people tuning in and showing interest for this fight, and UFC 121 next weekend could very well be the biggest pay-per-view event of 2010 for the organization, which has already seen multiple events surpass one million buys.
