UFC middleweight Mario Miranda has signed a new four fight deal with the organization, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
Miranda was last seen losing a decision to Demian Maia at UFC 118 in August, but he took the fight on short notice when Maia was moved from his originally scheduled Fight Night 22 headlining fight against Alan Belcher in September.
Miranda's gone just 1-2 in the organization, but by taking the fight with Maia on short notice he definitely put himself in the organization's good graces. He is 12-2 overall in his career, and most of his wins have come by stoppage. That includes his sole UFC victory over David Loiseau in June.
Penick's Analysis: The UFC has always been very uneven with who they keep under contract and who they release, but they've seen something in Miranda both in the cage and behind the scenes that they like enough to keep him around. Of course, as with all of the UFC's contracts, it could only take one more loss before he's released, and the new deal may simply be because of an old deal expiring and them giving him at least one more shot. He'll be out to win no matter what the situation the next time he hits the cage.
