The following are key excerpts from Randy Couture at the UFC 118 post-fight press conference about his victory over James Toney.
• "I had no illusions of trying to stand up with Toney. I pulled off the low single leg because it is really hard to counter that with a punch. I was not worried about him hitting me too much; I prepared the whole camp on doing exactly what I did. I felt in my mind that I had the best game plan."
• "I was not surprised that he did not knock me out from the bottom! He came out exactly like I thought he would, with a regular boxing stance. He did not demonstrate any solid skills once he hit his butt."
• "I really wanted James to have the complete MMA experience so I wanted to hit on him for a bit and then submit him. I was relaxed as what I normally am in the cage."
• "I felt right at home and when the music started I was completely relaxed. I hope that we pulled over some boxing fans."
• "I take the fights one by one; I really do not have anybody in mind. I got my black belt tonight and I was shocked I really had no idea that he was planning that. I have been working with him for years and am glad to finally have my black belt."
• "I am not going to accept the contract to box Toney in a boxing ring because that would just as silly as him coming to fight me here. He would probably beat me in the first round just like I beat him."
