The following are key excerpts from Brock Lesnar in post-fight interviews at UFC 116 on Saturday night. He discusses the onslaught from Shane Carwin, training for the submission, writing a book and celebrating with UFC sponsor products.
- The first round was like Hurricane Katrina, he hit me hard and I was just trying to survive all of the punches.
- I could feel that the punches were coming in slower and slower and I was just waiting until he let up. He definitely won the first round and he hits hard. I knew I lost the first round but I knew I had four left so I knew I was in a real fight.
- We suspected that he would train hard for ground and pound so we did plan on the choke. I cannot even pronounce the choke that I caught him in (laughs).
- This whole road back has felt like 10 years and it has been a tough road. To be back where I am now it is a miracle.
- I trained hard for this fight and I trained for five rounds. I wish I could have performed better, but Carwin definitely outperformed me in the fight. I showed a lot of heart and I showed what a champion should do.
- Now, I’m finally writing a book. Paul [Heyman's] writing it, both him and I, and my book will be coming out here in the near future. And we’ve been spending a lot of time together. And it’s really been cool to sit back and talk about things. Last night, Bill Goldberg came over and we watched my last match for WWE, we just laughed and it’s cool that we can do that. And it’s even more cool that I’m here.
- I want to thank the ref for not stopping the fight. I was blocking most of the big shots that were coming in. I was to also thank my sponsors for sticking with me.
- Eight months ago I did not even know if I was going to fight again and everyone stuck with me and I made it. I just want to breakdown and cry right now, but a champion cannot do that. My training partners helped me out tons, it’s just amazing grace.
- (In response to how he would celebrate this victory) I’m going to go home, watch Direct TV, drink some Bud Light, and ride my Harley Davidson.
