"I just did my physical this past year with Dana White. The problem is I'm not allowed to wrestle and fight. Dana White will not permit that. I’m a UFC die hard. Strikeforce yeah, I looked that way, I've looked every other direction. But when it comes down to the wire the one I want to fight for is Dana White.
I do regret not being able to get into the Octagon. A lot of things have sidetracked me. The fact that back then you weren't making as much money. In 2003 I was getting ready to quit wrestling and I broke my neck. Then I came back. 2006 I quit WWE, signed with TNA and went out to meet with the UFC. Dana White, that's the first time he told me I couldn't fight and wrestle at the same time. I didn't want to leave TNA because I just signed with them. I felt since they paid me up front I'd be loyal to them… And the thing is it eats away at me every day, and it's something I want to do before I retire from everything… I do want to do the UFC, the MMA thing and hopefully God willing it will be in the next year or two.
I don't consider myself a pro-wrestler, when I look at it I consider myself an Olympic gold medalist. Brock [Lesnar] and Bobby [Lashley] were great amateur wrestlers but they weren't anywhere near where I was… I have more credentials than almost anybody… I'm in the top 5 of the greatest amateur wrestlers of all time… Some of my fellow Olympians are Randy Couture… unfortunately he didn't walk away with a medal in the Olympics but he's still an incredible wrestler. I would love to see how I would fare against him…
Brock Lesnar is the real deal, he's an animal. Bobby Lashley is up and coming and is going to be great. But I don't know where I'll be, light heavyweight or heavyweight. I can make either one like that."
-Former WWE star and current TNA wrestler Kurt Angle talks to MMADieHards.com about wanting to fight in the UFC and why he hasn't come to MMA yet.
Penick's Analysis: I don't think Angle will ever fight in the UFC. He's got a long history of neck problems, and at his age when he hasn't been very healthy and hasn't been truly in fighting shape I don't see the UFC really giving him a fight in the Octagon. Then again, they just signed James Toney, so stranger things have happened. He would be one of the most accomplished amateur wrestlers ever to have come into the sport, but that life is long behind him. He'll say he's training and in shape and etc., but the long history of neck and back issues along with his history of pain pill issues are all red flags and not things that will likely get him into the UFC.
