The UFC's August schedule has undergone a slight shakeup, as two previously planned locations have swapped dates that month for the UFC's second event on Versus and UFC 117, according to multiple published reports.
The UFC 117 event was reported last week as coming to Salt Lake City, Utah, with a Middleweight Title bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen in the main event. Now, the UFC will be coming to Utah a week earlier for UFC on Versus 2 on August 1.
That event had originally been rumored to be heading to Oakland, Cali. on that date, and it appears that the UFC will now head there for the UFC 117 card, as MMAJunkie.com cites sources telling them they're heading to "northern California" for the event.
The Versus card will now head to the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, while the UFC 117 event could take place at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Penick's Analysis: If Silva vs. Sonnen is the headliner at UFC 117 and they don't add another big fight in a co-main event slot, it's very possible it becomes the lowest drawing pay-per-view event with a Title fight on it in recent years. Silva lost a lot of fans with his UFC 112 performance, and Chael Sonnen, while entertaining in interviews outside of the cage, is not to the point where he's going to be able to sell the card as the opponent.
