Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his billion dollar Cowboys Stadium could play host to a UFC event in 2011, per Yahoo! Sports writer Kevin Iole in his "Mailbag" column on Tuesday.
After attending last weekend's Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey boxing bout that was held at the venue, which opened last fall for the Cowboys' 2009-2010 campaign, UFC President Dana White came away "extremely impressed" with the venue and wants to bring an event there.
Iole made mention that nothing is in motion yet, though White is expected to give Jones a call soon. The event would not be able to take place this year due to the NFL season, per the report, but should be expected to come sometime between March and July of next year.
Penick's Analysis: An event at Cowboys Stadium works really well because it makes it so there's not a bad seat in the house. If you're up in the nosebleed seats of the venue, you've got the largest video board in any U.S. stadium to clearly catch all of the action. Hell, just seeing the fights on a screen that big makes for an experience that would be worth the price of admission for many. From the UFC's standpoint, the attendance and the amount of money that could come from an event in this stadium makes wanting to run an event there a no brainer. So for the fans down in Texas, expect this to be coming in the next year or so and enjoy the UFC experience amplified in this massive venue.
FYI: Cowboys Stadium brought a record attendance of 108,713 for the NBA All-Star game in February, and last weekend's Pacquiao-Clottey fight was the third highest attendance for an indoor event with 50,994 in the crowd.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
