The previously scheduled UFC 108 bout between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez will now come to UFC fans in Australia at UFC 110 in February according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
The bout was originally canceled due to Nogueira contracting severe staph infection for the second time in a year, leaving Velasquez without an opponent. With Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar's battle with illness there was talk that Velasquez would get matched up with Shane Carwin, possibly for an Interim Title, but the UFC has instead gone this route.
The 110 card is shaping up nicely with this bout and Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping at the top of the card.
Penick's Analysis: Could this mean that Lesnar is expected to return before the summer? That's how this can be read, as Carwin is now still awaiting an opponent and if it's not going to be Lesnar, Velasquez was the one that made the most sense. Still, this was an excellent matchup before for the January card and it is for this card as well. The Australian fans should get a very good event, provided once again that the UFC doesn't suffer another string of injuries that completely deplete this card a month out from the event.
