UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar is back home in Alexandria, Minnesota, recuperating from a minor surgical procedure he had to combat a bacterial infection in his intestinal tract.
Lesnar was released from a hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota, on Tuesday and according to the Associated Press will not make any decisions on his fighting future until his health has improved.
With no clear timetable as to his return, UFC President Dana White is working on scheduling an Interim Championship bout according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
Penick's Analysis: I was really hoping they could avoid an Interim situation with how little layoff there has been thus far, but when Lesnar hasn't even made a decision on what he's going to do it makes sense for them to plan ahead and move forward. I'd wholly expect them now to pit Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez against one another for that Interim belt likely in February or March, whichever makes most sense for them with Anderson Silva defending his belt in February. They could stick that bout on the Super Bowl weekend card as a co-headliner to give whomever comes out on top the largest possible audience, as that fight won't sell big time on pay-per-view at this point.
