Although the UFC had a dais filled with well known fighters on Friday for their "Go Big" launch event in Las Vegas, Conor McGregor made it his show, taking shots at half the fighters there and proclaiming himself the money-maker for everyone there.
He took several shots at his UFC 194 opponent Jose Aldo, and said he wanted to do anything he could to make sure the Champ shows up to fight on Dec. 12.
"I don't want to scare him anymore," McGregor said (transcribed by MMAFighting.com. "He's petrified. He went running before. So now I'm going to take the opposite approach, cuddle him, look after him, whisper sweet nothings, tell him it's going to alright, it'll be over quick. And hopefully get him into that octagon on Dec. 12. And then end his career."
Of course, he had plenty worse to say about the Champ, including some straight to the point remarks about the damage Aldo took in his fight with Chad Mendes last October.
"You've looked like you've had a stroke," McGregor said. "The left side of your face is drooping. I'm worried about you. I'm honestly worried. I love you. I love you like my b****. I just want to make sure you're OK. Get yourself medically tested. Your face is drooping to the left."
Aldo had to leave the press conference early to catch a flight, which once again gave McGregor a platform on which to sound off. This time, he told everyone within range of a potential fight with him to be ready come Dec. 12.
"I'll tell everyone up here 145 right up to 170, prepare for this fight, because I don't think he's showing up," McGregor said. "It's the opportunity of a lifetime you have, and don't use [Mendes'] excuse of camps and all this bull***. Stay ready, because he's gone running."
Penick's Analysis: McGregor was a bit on edge throughout the proceedings today, chiming in at every possible opportunity, interrupting several others, and claiming his superiority in the process. Now, much of it has been talk, but as he'd say near the end, has he been wrong yet? He's had a lot to say, but he continues to back it up inside the cage; now, Aldo's showing up on Dec. 12. It'd be crazy at this point if it gets delayed again, and though injuries can always happen, I find it really hard to believe we'll see another repeat setback. That said, McGregor's made it clear that he's fighting on Dec. 12 no matter what happens, so I suppose the UFC has options if it becomes worst case scenario time once again.
