Al Iaquinta's been nursing a knee injury since a controversial decision win over Jorge Masvidal in April, and it seemed surgery was going to be on the docket for him.
However, according to a report from Wednesday's UFC Tonight program on Fox Sports 1, Iaquinta's doctors have advised him to undergo stem cell treatments instead of surgery. The treatment, per the report, should allow him to return in January.
Riding what is technically a four-fight winning streak in the UFC's lightweight division, Iaquinta is reportedly interested in a bout against Beneil Dariush, who would enter the fight off his own controversial decision win over Michael Johnson last month.
Penick's Analysis: That's actually kind of a brilliant fight to put together if they go that route. With both fighters coming off controversial "wins," a fight between the two of them would allow the winner to get on track to prove they're in the right slot in the division. From there they can prove their worth against the next level of opponents at lightweight given how most believe neither of them should have won their most recent fights.
