Robbie Lawler's thumb injury won't keep him sidelined long, and the UFC Welterweight Champion may be ready to fight by UFC 195 on Jan. 2.
The injury pulled Lawler out of November's UFC 193 event in Australia, but according to a report from UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1, the injury won't require surgery, and he's only going to be sidelined at most a month.
That timetable will allow him to get back fairly quickly, and the planned bout with Carlos Condit may simply swap headlining slots with the fight that replaced them in Australia, Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm. The Jan. 2 card emanates from Las Vegas to kick off the UFC's 2016 schedule.
Penick's Analysis: The good news is this fight can still happen without the UFC holding anything up. It's only a slight delay to the schedule, and actually still keeps things mostly intact to what the plan had been. That's the best all around for the fans and the UFC given the circumstances.
