Anthony "Rumble" Johnson isn't facing any suspension from the UFC over an incident at his gym earlier this month, but the organization said on Monday night that the light heavyweight competitor has agreed to counseling and to make a donation to a Florida-based women's charity following their investigation into the incident.
The UFC announced their decision in a statement released Monday night, stating that Johnson has apologized to the woman he bragged about harrassing, and that the woman herself has accepted that apology in hopes of moving on. Here's their full statement:
"Following a thorough investigation by a third-party law firm, UFC® is extremely disappointed with Anthony Johnson’s recent actions, as the organization does not tolerate behavior of this nature from any athletes under contract with the UFC. Johnson personally apologized to the woman he verbally offended at a Florida gym last week and for the insensitive comments he made on social media afterwards. The woman accepted Johnson’s apology and indicated a desire to put this unfortunate matter behind them. In order to ensure these situations do not happen in the future, Johnson has agreed to participate in counseling and UFC will support him through this process. Johnson has also agreed to make a donation to a Florida-based women’s charity.
Johnson will face Jimi Manuwa at UFC 191®: JOHNSON vs. DODSON 2 on Saturday, September 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas."
Penick's Analysis: I'm not surprised whatsoever that nothing more came from this. He has done worse in the past, and the UFC did nothing at that time, so they were never going to take serious action against him. Now, if he's legitimately going to participate in counseling, some good may come of this, because he should address why he has the attitude he continuously does towards women. It's sad, it's unhealthy, and it's continued to lead to incident after incident with him. Now, that may be too much to ask for it actually to come to fruition, but it would be a start.
