"I haven't personally made a decision [on retirement] one way or the other...Hopefully my brain can heal over time...The shot last fight is something that normally wouldn't hurt me. I think I need at least some time off from getting hit. I'm going to take time off sparring then. I'll train still. Still gonna roll. I'll probably do a little more jiu-jitsu than normal because I like it. It's fun."
-Chuck Liddell at SI.com about his fighting future.
Penick's Analysis: This is smart thinking on Liddell's part. If he eventually decides to return, a lengthy time off to recuperate from multiple knockouts is the best way to go about it. Head injuries are nothing to mess around with, and none of us want to see fighters like Liddell end up like so many former boxers and other pro athletes that have suffered multiple concussions throughout their careers. If Liddell finds he's healthy by April of next year and wants to attempt a comeback he should have the right to, but again Dana White's contention with that return has been all about Chuck's health and making sure he doesn't injure himself further after some devastating losses.
