More than five years after walking away from MMA, heavyweight Justin Wren is returning to the sport.
Bellator MMA announced on Thursday that Wren has signed with them, and will make his debut on August 28 at Bellator 141.
The Ultimate Fighter season 10 competitor fought just once in the Octagon after the 2009 season, and won a few fights outside of it before injury and a different calling led to his exit.
Wren found himself in the Congo, where he's spent much of the last five years with his "Fight for the Forgotten" foundation, which has been working on freeing the Mbuti Pygmies from slavery and oppression from neighboring tribes. His efforts are the subject of a book coming out in September, co-written with former MMA journalist Loretta Hunt, entitled "Fight for the Forgotten: How a Mixed Martial Artist Stopped Fighting for Himself and Started Fighting for Others."
In his MMA return, Wren will meet Josh Burns, who has lost in all five of his Bellator appearances. His most recent loss came against Bobby Lashley at Bellator 123 last September.
