"I've changed my life a lot lately. Trying to re-do my life, trying to rededicate my life to the sport some and for me it's kind of a next level fight for me. I want to make a statement in this fight and show that I belong in the top 10 and guys that are outside the top 10 are just going to be nothing to me. If you're not in the top 10, you're going to get smashed. The thing about the welterweight division is how hard it is to get in the top 10 and once you're there, you're dealing with a bunch of savages. That's what I've got to make a statement to show that I'm part of the savages in there. I want to show you're not f--king with me. Nobody is... I'm going to go in and make a statement. I'm going to let the welterweight division know I'm not going anywhere and let Tim Means know he's in another league now and he doesn't belong in there with me."

-Matt Brown talks about his fight with Tim Means at UFC 189 in an appearance on Fox Sports' Great MMA Debate Podcast.

Penick's Analysis: Brown failing to beat Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks certainly doesn't take him out of the top end mix in the division. This fight with Means is one of those crossroads matchups, in that it could be a chance for him to reset and get back on track, just as it could be Means' moment to take Brown's spot in that mix. Brown is determined not to let that happen, but it's a significant fight for both of them regardless. If Brown can get some confidence back with a big win on Saturday, he can try to make one last climb up to earn a title shot in the division.
