"European fighters are complete MMA fighters. We are not just focused on wrestling or grappling or jiu-jitsu. We are doing all kind of things: striking, boxing, Muay Thai. That's why we will become the best fighters in the world. Most of the time, the American fighters are focused on just wrestling or just one part of the preparation. This is the mistake Carla made... I hope Conor McGregor will soon join this list. And Khabib [Nurmagomedov]. He can be a champion in the future. There will definitely be more European champions... I get more attention from everybody [since winning the title], not just from young people watching MMA. I feel that I am important for them. I want to represent my city, my country and I want to represent Europe as well."

-UFC Women's Strawweight Champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk espouses the skills of European MMA competitors in an interview with UFC.com.

Penick's Analysis: Jedrzejczyk looked fantastic in defeating Carla Esparza to take that title, and there is certainly a higher level of European talent competing at the highest levels than we've seen in some past years. I don't know that we'll see European talent take over across the board anytime soon, but there are a lot of really good fighters from that region who are making their names right now. Jedrzejczyk is a big part of that now, and if she can hold onto that title for some length of time, it will help build the image of the sport there further as well.
