"I've fought many guys over the years that have used performance-enhancing drugs, so obviously I have a very dim view of that. I've always been a hardworking, honest-working guy; the only thing I take are protein shakes and that's it. Blood, sweat and tears [are] in my preparation. I've had injuries in the past from guys using performance-enhancing drugs. This sport, there's no place for that. We're not trying to put balls in hoops. It's a fight... If you're taking performance-enhancing drugs and you get caught, in my mind, you should be banned for life."
-Michael Bisping continues to rail against PED users during a recent media conference call (via FoxSports.com).
Penick's Analysis: The harsher punishments for PED users coming down from the Nevada Athletic Commission in the near future are the part most can get behind. It's some of the other things they're going to punish even more harshly than before that are cause for concern. Still, while an immediate lifetime ban would be quite punitive, it's not necessarily without precedent in the sporting world. The three or four year bans coming may ultimately get challenged in court, similar to what Wanderlei Silva's currently doing, but clearly a bigger message is necessary for those who continue to use PEDs.
