Longtime heavyweight vet Josh Barnett is still on the UFC roster, and though he hasn't fought since December of 2013, he's still planning to return this year.
However, that return date's been pushed back to the latter half of the year, according to a report from UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1 this week.
Per the report, Barnett is filming a movie role this summer, so he's now targeting a fight in the fall or winter. As to whom he'd like to face, Barnett's targeting a fight with Roy Nelson.
The former UFC Heavyweight Champion returned to the organization in 2013 after 11 years fighting outside of the Octagon, and picked up a win over Frank Mir before getting knocked out by Travis Browne.
Penick's Analysis: Barnett-Nelson would be a fine matchup for later in the year. I don't know if Nelson wants to sit out until late in the year, but that's a matchup that works for both. Regardless, however many fights Barnett has left, there are plenty of options that work at this stage of his career.
