In another significant blow to next month's UFC 187 event in Las Vegas, MMAJunkie.com reports that Khabib Nurmagomedov has suffered a knee injury, taking him out of his fight with Donald Cerrone on the pay-per-view card.
The news comes just a day after the main event was changed, with the UFC stripping Jon Jones of his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and putting Daniel Cormier into the main event against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson.
Nurmagomedov, who holds a dominant win over current Champ Rafael dos Anjos, was hoping to secure his shot at that title. Now, Cerrone's left waiting for a new opponent.
The event hits Las Vegas on May 23, and also features a Middleweight Title bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.
Penick's Analysis: That's awful news. This was going to be a great test for Cerrone and another chance for Nurmagomedov to solidify his status as the top contender. Now, things will get a bit murky as far as just whom will challenge dos Anjos first for that belt, and I'm not sure what the best option is to plug in against Cerrone, either.
