"You guys come and see today – I'm doing everything. Wrestling, boxing, and tomorrow you can watch my sparring. I do everything that I did before my injury... I think a lot of people understand now who the best fighter in the world. Rafael dos Anjos is now the UFC Lightweight Champion, but one year ago, I dominated him. I think I am the champion. I think he is a fake champion – like [Anthony] Pettis before."
-Khabib Nurmagomedov talks to MMAJunkie.com about being back to where he was before his injury into UFC 187 and why he thinks Rafael dos Anjos isn't a true champion.
Penick's Analysis: Given the fight between Nurmagomedov and dos Anjos happened just last year, he's obviously got an argument to call himself the best lightweight in the world. Some probably have him there already. I think dos Anjos' performance against Pettis was the type of thing that makes him a worthy Champion, but he'll need to beat Nurmagomedov to establish that spot in the eyes of everyone. If Nurmagomedov beats Donald Cerrone as he'll be expected to do next month, we'll find out one way or another later this year.
