UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones has gone back and forth several times on the idea of going up to the heavyweight division, and now he says it would only be temporary if it happens.
In an appearance on a Google Hangout with Andrei Arlovski, Jones said his plans are to remain at light heavyweight outside of some potential superfights.
"Honestly, probably not," Jones said when asked if he was moving up (transcribed by MMAFighting.com. "As I get older I'm maturing a lot more. My weight cuts are becoming a lot more easy. I'm learning how to eat better. I'll probably be at light heavyweight for a long time.
"I'll probably go to heavyweight for one or two superfights at some point and then get back down to light heavyweight."
Penick's Analysis: If he's not putting too much weight on his frame and can continue making the cut with relative ease, there's no reason for him to leave the division he's dominated for so long now. A heavyweight superfight against the right opponent could be interesting, but as long as there are opponents for him at 205 lbs., he can continue taking them out for as long as he's capable of doing so.
